Mystery quilt kits, lots of new pre-cuts

A Message from Monica

Hello, everyone.
Well, another chapter in my book is closed. As the 22-year tradition of Desert Quilting Retreats came to an end there were lots of hugs and tears. Evelia and I were presented with wonderful cards and fabulous gifts--I was simply overwhelmed. It was hard to walk out of the room knowing it was the last time. I want to thank everybody for all the years of love and support—those retreats helped us get through long, hot, slow summers at the shop—without you we could not have paid the electric bill and rent to keep the doors open at Monica's Quilt and Bead Creations! I will miss each and every one of you. I’m still thinking about what it would be like to have a reunion—who knows?

Here are the beautiful "Harmony" quilts given to Evelia and me at the retreat last weekend. Pictured are quilt makers Marilyn, Rose Mary, Susan and Allison. Not pictured--Debbie, Myra and Julie. They also made a quilt for Susie (retired now, but part of the "retreat team" for many years) and mailed it to her. Do you think we cried?

Speaking of the retreat—we always make extra kits and this year we have a few left. As of today there are 24 one-of-a-kind kits (pattern included) that are just $90 each. Batiks, holiday, novelty, Kaffe Fassett...they are up on the website--you can click here to see them. First come, first served on these. Oh! And, if you want to purchase backing for your kit, just call us. We’ll give you 15% off the backing fabric.
We continue to gear up for the Bead Shop Hop which is just right around the corner. I hope you have been on line to register--please make sure you do that before you venture out. It will make everything easier for the shops. Go to the Southern California Local Bead Shop Association web page to sign up. Wanda, Rose Mary, Letty and I are planning carefully to make sure everything is in order. I know it will run smoothly with my trusted, seasoned pros in charge while I’m visiting my mother in Idaho. How lucky am I?
And we are busy cutting and packing our fat quarters for the Reindeer Dash. Here’s our fabric—I LOVE it! My friend Kari from Quilting renditions is still working on our block pattern. She never disappoints.
Would you believe we’re also getting ready for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day coming up on Saturday, September 18th? Lots of Jelly Rolls and Roly Polies are already arriving at the shop. You can see some of them in What’s New below. Next week I’ll share some of the fabulous patterns and books we have to help you use those strips. We now have some licensed Roly Polies from Riley Blake in addition to a variety of other collections, including Barbie, Fisher-Price toys, Hot Wheels, and Cat-tractor. I don’t think they’ll last long so come in and grab them while you can. You can see them in What’s New below.
Happy quilting and beading, everyone--I hope to see you soon.

What's Happening

Mark your calendars! We are so excited that this year the SCLBSA is having a “Welcome Back” shop hop. An extra day has been added to each weekend, hopefully reducing the number of Hoppers at one time in each shop. Click here to pre-register--that helps all of us plan ahead.

A big "Thank you" to those who have already brought in Love Bugs to donate. Reach out to children in need--make a soft, cuddly Love Bug with our free pattern. This is part of a national project--Click Here to read more about it.
